Securing the American Dream

The PenFed Foundation is a national nonprofit organization founded in 2001 that is committed to helping members of our military community secure their financial future.

We provide service members, veterans, their families and support networks with the skills and resources they need to improve their lives through programs on financial education, credit-building, home ownership, and short-term assistance.

Affiliated with PenFed Credit Union, we have the resources to effectively reach military communities across the nation, build strong partnerships, and engage a dedicated corps of volunteers in its mission.

We work to ensure that those who selflessly devote their lives to defend our country have the resources they need for a secure financial future. We work to prevent medical emergencies from turning into financial hardships for our nation's defenders and partner with other organizations to have the greatest impact on meeting unmet needs.

We strictly follow all IRS guidelines and provide transparency on how your contributions are used:

  • PenFed Credit Union funds the PenFed Foundation's personnel and most operational costs, demonstrating its strong commitment to the programs we provide.
  • Support for our programs come from both private and corporate donations.
  • The PenFed Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) organization; donations are tax deductible.

After more than a decade of war, increasing numbers of military service members are transitioning into civilian life and facing an especially challenging economy. Our nation's veterans often face multiple struggles as they leave their military service. As the armed forces continue to downsize, large numbers of men and women will continue to transition into the civilian community and encounter financial stresses that can create long-term financial problems. There will be increasing need for the foundation's existing and new services.

The PenFed Foundation is dedicated to assist the men and women and their immediate families. This includes both uniform and non-uniform personnel. Our Military Heroes Program provides support to those wounded in the war against terrorism. Given the large numbers of wounded and the long-term nature of their challenges, the government faces budget and logistical problems in meeting their needs. That's where the foundation steps in to help.

Military personnel and their families face financial stress due to relatively low pay, extended deployments and combat injuries. Payday lenders target those in the military because they have regular paychecks and must pay their bills or risk losing their security clearances. Our Asset Recovery Kit (ARK) provides no-interest emergency cash loans and free professional counseling to help solve money problems.

Military families and veterans deserve their piece of the American dream. Our Dream Makers program assists eligible first-time home buyers of modest means who serve who serve to defend our country's national security.
