Military Heroes - Emergency Financial Assistance

Military Heroes Fund

 

The Military Heroes Fund Emergency Financial Assistance Program offers financial assistance for wounded, ill, and injured Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) veterans who are experiencing an unexpected financial setback.

 

What we support

We provide emergency financial assistance to veterans and families with delinquent essential expenses such as:

  • Rent
  • Mortgage
  • Electric
  • Water
  • Natural gas
  • Heating petroleum
  • Utilities
  • Auto loan
  • Auto insurance

All bills must be at least 30 days in arrears (past-due) to qualify

The Foundation can only support one emergency financial request per household

Eligibility 

  • Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and/or Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) (meaning served in Afghanistan or Iraq "boots on the ground")  
  • Have a VA disability rating 
  • Have been honorably discharged 

Apply

To apply for a grant, download, complete, and sign the Emergency Assistance Application. You will be required to provide the following documents for your application to be considered:

  • DD214
  • VA or military disability rating statement OR proof of VA disability claim submission
  • Most recent bill /statement for requested expense showing past due status AND a lease agreement for rent requests
     

Please send the completed application and supporting documents to militaryheroes@penfed.org or fax to 703-838-1344. The PenFed Foundation will review and notify applicants upon approval prior to funding. 

Completed applications may take up to 10 days to process

Financial assistance is provided directly to the creditor

Emergency financial assistance grants are provided on a one-time only basis
