During the Papillion Branch opening on August 23, 2016, PenFed officials presented thousands of dollars in donations to local charities during their grand opening ceremony. A total of $18,000 was presented to American Legion Post 339, the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home, the Offutt Air Force Base Top 3 Association, and Papillion-La Vista School Foundation. The first three donations represented proceeds from PenFed’s firstOmaha golf tournament hosted by the credit union’s charitable arm, the PenFed Foundation, in order to benefit military community members and the organizations that support them.

When asked about the Credit Union's charitable efforts, Cody explained the role of the credit union’s non-profit organization. He said, “The PenFed Foundation was established in 2001 to fill gaps in the government services available to our service members, veterans, their families and caregivers. PenFed’s roots are in the defense community. Our relationship with our nation’s defenders is indeed special, and we are honored to serve them.”
